At Illuminate IV Therapy, we’ve had phenomenal results treating patients with severe post-partum anxiety, depression, trauma, and rage. We recognize that every mother’s experience with this condition is unique, and our team of licensed professionals approach every patient’s situation, focusing on tailoring therapy to their individual needs.
When women give birth, the commonly called “baby blues” can cause their moods to swing. Post-partum depression is more severe because these feelings last longer, are more intense, and make new mothers feel as if they can’t handle daily activities. This condition is not generally caused by any single symptom but is likely a combination of ailments including:
Emotional symptoms:
Persistent sadness.
Anxiety.
Feelings of hopelessness, guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness.
Irritability, frustration, or restlessness, loss of interest in activities.
Difficulty concentration, and thoughts or harming themselves or the baby.
Physical symptoms:
Abnormal changes in appetite or unplanned weight changes.
Physical aches or pains, headaches.
Cramps, or digestive problems.
Difficulty sleeping.
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for new mothers diagnosed with post-partum depression to be prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). At Illuminate, we believe ketamine therapy is a much better option, mainly because the health of the mother is directly linked to the baby and the rest of her family.
Quick relief:
SSRI’s can take several weeks to months to work, and those with severe postpartum depression can’t wait that long to get their lives back on track. Many of our patients at Illuminate IV Therapy see significant improvement within a short time after their first infusion, which becomes more pronounced as they progress through their treatments.
Short-Term Treatment:
Because of the short window of therapy needed, patients do not have to worry about having ketamine in their systems long-term. One of the most advantageous features of ketamine for post-partum depression is that treatment may be completed within 2–4 weeks, without the need for further treatments.
Breastfeeding Can Continue During Therapy:
Currently, there isn’t substantial research on the safety of ketamine therapy while breastfeeding. However, healthcare providers recommend pumping prior to the therapy, waiting to breastfeed again for two days after treatment then continuing with regular feedings after the third day post- treatment to be safe. Our team always recommends consulting with your healthcare provider prior to any treatment.
At Illuminate, we believe authentic wellness comes from healing mind, body, and spirit. Our team employs a patient-centered approach to treating our patients suffering from post-partum depression with the goal of not only alleviating symptoms but providing a clear path to physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
